Leader Skills are a type of passive ability that is innate to certain units of 7
or higher rarity and works in conjunction with "Categories" or "Unit Categories". Each unit is assigned several categories based on their game series (e.g. "FFBE"), elemental attribute (e.g. "Fire"), combat roles (e.g. "Attacker"), and others. Units might also belong to different categories in their Brave Shift form. Refer to the individual unit pages to see which categories they are assigned to.
An active Leader Skill will grant a buff to specified stats to all the units in a party that belong to any of the categories designated by the Leader Skill. Units that belong to both categories receive the same buff as units that only belong to one, and units that do not belong to either of those categories will not receive the buff. These buffs will stack on top of similar buffs. Only the Leader Skill of the unit that is set as the "Leader" in a party will activate.
There are some battles that are restricted to units belonging to certain categories. A Brave Shift unit that has access to that category in one form but not the other needs to be set to the form fulfilling the condition to start the fight, but can then be switched to the other form during battle.
Example:
Take a party composed of Dark Fina -Warrior's Prayer- and Ibara.
Dark Fina -Warrior's Prayer- has the "Victorious Bonds/Dark" Leader Skill, which buffs the ATK and MAG of all allies belonging to the "Bonds" and "Dark" categories by 100% if she is set as the party leader. Ibara in her base form does not belong to either of these categories, so she will not receive the buffs.
Using Dark Fina -Warrior's Prayer-'s Super Limit Burst for the 400% ATK/DEF/MAG/SPR buff will result in Dark Fina -Warrior's Prayer- having a total of 500% ATK/MAG and 400% DEF/SPR buff, while Ibara remains at 400% ATK/DEF/MAG/SPR. However, if she Brave Shifts, her "Lightning" category is replaced with the "Dark" category and the Leader Skill now affects her as well, resulting in Ibara now also getting a 500% ATK/MAG and 400% DEF/SPR buff.
